Sports Roundup: La Cañada water polo downs Monrovia

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

La Cañada 15, Monrovia 3: The Spartans completed a season sweep of the Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon at home.

With the victory, La Cañada improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the Rio Hondo League. The Spartans are back in action on Thursday versus visiting South Pasadena.

Alemany 6, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 5 (overtime): The Tologs lost a heartbreaker in Mission League action on the road Tuesday.

FSHA is 14-9, 4-3 in league. The Tologs rallied from a 3-0 hole after the first quarter and scored the fourth quarter’s only goal to send the match into overtime, where Alemany was the only team to tally a goal.

The Tologs posted an 18-1 league win Thursday. Maddy Dulcich finished with five goals and Emily Gray added four and goalkeeper Trisha Canessa registered seven saves.

WRESTLING

La Cañada 54, South Pasadena 27: It was a strong finish to the regular season for the Spartans, who defeated host South Pasadena in Rio Hondo League action Tuesday afternoon.

With the victory, the Spartans improved to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in league and took third place in the final league standings behind four-time champion San Marino (5-0) and runner-up Hoover (4-1).

La Cañada Coach Justin Luthey said his team would petition for an at-large berth to Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Western Division Dual Meet Championships at Long Beach Millikan High.

If the Spartans don’t get a berth, they will then prepare for the Rio Hondo League individual finals Feb. 10 at Monrovia High.

As for Tuesday, the Spartans picked up pins at 106 pounds as well as 120, 132, 138, 145, 182 and 195 pounds. The team also secured forfeit victories at 220 pounds and in the heavyweight division.

Luthey was most pleased with the fall at 145 pounds as La Cañada’s David Sarkisian rallied from an 8-4 deficit to secure the win.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 7, Mayfield 1: Helen Schaefer collected three goals and Jillian Brady added two goals and two assists Tuesday for the host Rebels in a Prep League match.

Flintridge Prep improved to 12-2-5, 6-1 in league.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 71, Pasadena Poly 22: The host Rebels received 22 points from Tala Ismail and 17 from Taylor Yoshida on Tuesday to earn a Prep League victory.

Flintridge Prep improved to 14-4, 9-1 in league. Flintridge Prep earned a 64-32 nonleagie road win Friday.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 56, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 34: Jenna Tran finished with a team-high 18 points Tuesday to propel the visiting Tologs in a Sunshine League contest.

Flintridge Sacred Heart improved to 17-6, 4-2 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 1, Buckley 0: Ben Ventresca scored to lead the Rebels to a nonleague win Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Hamilton Evans finished with five saves for the Rebels (9-2-2).

Flintridge Prep fell Friday to Pasadena Poly, 2-0, in a Prep League match at St. Francis High. The Rebels are 1-2 in league.
