Thanks everyone for all that you do for baseball in Aberdeen and Milbank!
Webster on deck
Bob Wiley Field in Webster is on deck as host of the Legion State B in 2013.
Webster was supposed to host the 2012 tourney, but a storm earlier this summer damaged the field's lights. So Webster and Milbank switched years for hosting.
Both baseball groups in both towns did a nice job of readjusting on shorter notice than either would have liked.
So on to Webster in 2013.
State A Legion tourney
The starting shortstop for Rapid City Post 22 is Hunter Jackson. He is the son of 1990s three-year Northern State starting linebacker Jeremy Jackson of Timber Lake. Hunter will continue his baseball career at Mount Marty College in Yankton.
The baseball season for the State B American Legion champion Groton will continue this week in Wahpeton, N.D.
Groton will play in a Division II tourney Aug. 9-12 with a banquet on Wednesday night to start the tourney. Groton will be taking a majority of its players - some are headed off to college - and use its allowance of pick-up players as well, probably from runner-up Flandreau.
Zucchini grows here
My American News teammate Jeff Bahr wrote a great column Saturday on people giving away their over-abundance of zucchini and other garden produce at this time of year. This line was given to me this week by a reader:
You don't want to leave your car door unlocked in Aberdeen because if you do, you are likely to find a bag of zucchini in it.
