There are 38 undefeated high school football teams in South Dakota.
Meanwhile, 40 of the 144 teams have yet to win a game.
Yankton, Sioux Falls Washington and Brandon Valley are the only remaining teams yet to lose among the big schools. Area undefeated schools are: Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, Webster, Aberdeen Roncalli, Leola-Frederick, Potter County, Herreid/Selby Area, Warner, Wilmot, Hamlin, Faith, Castlewood, Sully Buttes and Langford.
Big road wins
Aberdeen Roncalli got a big conference road win as did Aberdeen Central Friday night:
Roncalli 44, Milbank 7: Milbank Area had five first-quarter turnovers in the Northeast Conference game and watched Matt Swallow score five touchdowns for Roncalli. Swallow rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns, caught a pass for a score and returned an interception 48 yards for a TD.
Central 21, Mitchell 19: Jake Carrico threw for 244 yards and two TDs (Mike Stotz and Issac Jones) for Aberdeen Central in its Eastern South Dakota Conference win over Mitchell, which scored twice in the last five minutes.
Anthony Backmeier made all three of his PAT kicks and Central defended a two-point conversion pass to prevent Mitchell from tying the game with 63 seconds left. Then the Golden Eagles recovered the on-side kick.
On the failed Mitchell two-point conversion attempt, Chase Severson hit the quarterback and rushed him and Sheffer Harbert defended the receiver. Stotz recovered the on-side kick along with his nine tackles and one interception. And finally, Josh Hilgemann had 10 catches for 153 yards and one TD.
Mason Keller hauled in a 56-yard scoring pass from Alex Greger midway through the final period to lift Mobridge-Pollock to a 24-19 non-conference football win over Redfield-Doland. There were four lead changes in the game.
Potter County used a 21-point second half to defeat rival Eureka-Bowdle 37-14 in the American News game of the week. Replay with commentary at AberdeenNews.com/sports/video.
Defending State 9B football champion Waverly-South Shore nipped Tri-State 36-28 with 15 seconds left when Sam Pond's throw hooked up with Zach Stricherz for a 23-yard TD pass to break a 28-28 tie with 15 seconds left. Pond threw five TDs.
Canistota used a stiff defense to extend its winning streak to 26 games in a 16-8 win over Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan in Sioux Falls. Both teams have won the last two state titles in their divisions and entered the game rated No. 1 in their divisions. B-E/E has lost only four games in the last three seasons, three to Cornbelt Conference rival Canistota.
Sioux Falls Lincoln defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt 36-35 in overtime in the 21st annual Presidents Bowl Saturday. Lincoln’s Teren Schuster provided the game-winning PAT kick, while Roosevelt — playing without holder Lucas Wilber who was hurt in the first half — just missed a 44-yard field goal at the end of regulation and a game-tying PAT kick in overtime.
Jared Long hit Deric Denning for a 3-yard TD with time running out and then hit Marcus Anderson for the two-point conversion to give Mount Vernon a 14-12 win over Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central.
Reid Valsvig passed for 208 yards in Webster’s win over Groton.
Ryan Damm had three sacks for Deuel in its win over Britton-Hecla.
Darin Wieseler had 221 yards of rushing and receiving in Faulkton’s win over Ipswich-Edmunds Central.

Cody Trainor of Faith rushed for five TDs and had a 65-yard TD kickoff return to lead the Longhorns past Rapid City Christian.
Jake Oberpriller rushed for 252 yards and four TDs in Hot Springs’ win over Belle Fourche.
Gregory quarterback Jaden Bartling had a hand in five TDs in Gregory’s 52-0 win over Avon.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound senior Cole Langer led 11A No. 1 Dell Rapids past No. 2 West Central 28-14 with 167 yards and two TDs. A SDSU recruit, Langer is the grandson of NFL Hall of Fame center Jim Langer, who led the Miami Dolphins to a 17-0, Super Bowl winning season in 1972.
Herreid-Selby Area quarterback Nick Larson completed three of four passes in his team’s win over Lemmon-McIntosh for 134 yards, two TDs and a two-point conversion.
It has been an interesting season for 2-1 Spearfish with wins over Rapid City Stevens (38-0) and Rapid City Central (17-0) and a 7-0 loss to St. Thomas More. The last time the Spartans swept the Rapid City schools was 2003 when they won the state title over Aberdeen Central.
Clark-Willow Lake scored 61 points with only 186 yards rushing and receiving in its win over Tiospa Zina, thanks to TDs from two interceptions and a punt return.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman is 0-3 for the first time since 2003.

Tri-Valley rushed 45 times for 553 yards — a 12.3 yard average — in its 52-14 win over Elk Point-Jefferson.
