1987 -- Rookie Mark McGwire's two-run homer, his second of the game and 33rd of the season, capped a three-run eighth-inning rally that boosted the Oakland Athletics to a 6-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

1992 -- Stuart Scott defeated Brett Peterson of Watertown 1-up in 19 holes to reach the final match of the state men's match play golf tournament. Scott, a former Aberdonian now living in Sioux Falls, will meet Brad Dubisar of Sioux Falls in the 36-hole title match.

1997 -- Ryan Albrecht pitched a two-hitter and Kerry Jacobson had three hits, including a double and a triple, as the Aberdeen Smittys rolled to a 12-0 victory over Gillette, Wyo., in a game from an American Legion baseball tournament in Pierre.

2002 -- Tommy Armour III fired an eight-under par 63 and holds the lead after the first round of the Greater Milwaukee Open golf tournament.

2007 -- Jordan Foster, who finished with five RBIs, lined a two-run double which gave Aberdeen the lead for good in the fifth inning and the Smittys went on to an 8-4 American Legion baseball win over Rapid City Post 22.

2011 -- Terry Tchida had four hits, including two doubles and a home run, and Aaron Kappes added a pair of doubles to highlight a 14-attack for Britton as the Lumberjacks rolled to a 14-4 amateur baseball triumph over Flandreau.
