BLAINE, Minn. — The Aberdeen Wings lost for the first time this young season.
The Fresno (Calif.) Monsters downed the Wings 4-3 on Friday in North American Hockey League action at the NAHL Showcase. The Aberdeen squad began the season with two wins.
The Monsters scored the first goal of the game in the first period on a power play and the two teams alternated goals the rest of the way. Fresno scored the last goal in the third period with 21 ⁄
2 minutes to play. Sean Kalbak led the California squad with a goal, including the game winner, and two assists. Goalie Macauley Haight had 14 saves in 17 shots.
The Wings were led by Justin Parizek with a goal and an assist and Peter Krieger added two assists. The Aberdeen defense gave up a power play for the first time in 16 opportunities for the opponents this season. The Monsters connected on just one goal in eight power-play tries. Marcus Zelzer stopped 24 of 28 save opportunities in the Fresno game.
The Aberdeen Wings (2-1-0) will complete play at the NAHL Showcase at 4 p.m. today against the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Jr. K-Wings who are undefeated at 3-0-0.
