The Big Stone South to Ellendale Transmission Line, a proposed $300 million, 150- to 175-mile electrical line from the Big Stone Power Plant in Big Stone City to a proposed Ellendale substation near Ellendale, N.D., will be explained at several open houses next week.
Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. and Otter Tail Power Company jointly will develop, construct and operate the line. Staff from those companies will be there to explain the project.
The open houses include:
Webster — 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 16, The Galley at 230 Highway 12
Aberdeen — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17, Dakota Events Center at 720 Lamont St.
Ellendale — 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 17, Fireside Restaurant at 415 N. First Ave.
Britton — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Oct. 18, Marshall County Meeting Room at 909 S. Main St.
The project has been identified as a way to strengthen the power grid and build in capacity for wind energy development, according to the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, the independent governing body in charge of coordinating electrical transmission in the region.
