The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame released the names of the 12 finalists for the 2013 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, a list that includes South Dakota State senior Nate Wolters.
The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in men’s college basketball. The list started with 80 candidates and got smaller after a nationally based committee narrowed the list to 12 student-athletes. Wolters scored a school-record 53 points in an 80-74 win against IPFW on Thursday. Wolters then had 36 points in an 88-83 loss against Oakland on Saturday. He also added six rebounds and seven assists, which gives him an SDSU career-record 609 assists for his career, breaking the mark of 605, set by Brian Norberg from 1995-99.
