AT THE PLATE: Albert Pujols doubled in Ji-Man Choi in the first inning and hit a berm-clearing home run to left field in the fourth right after Mike Trout hit a home run to left-center field. Trout and Pujols have combined for nine home runs in Cactus League play.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons was three for three, including two doubles. … When Jefry Marte and Craig Gentry singled, the Angels tied the score with two outs in the ninth inning. It was their fifth Cactus League tie.

ON THE MOUND: Right-hander Nick Tropeano started his first game in 11 days. He gave up home runs in the third inning to Jason Hayward and Anthony Rizzo. Tropeano gave up six hits in five innings, striking out two batters and walking two.

Greg Mahle, a 22-year-old left-hander, threw a scoreless inning, striking out Anthony Rizzo. … Right-handers Javy Guerra and Cory Rasmus each pitched one inning and each gave up an earned run.

EXTRA BASES: Catcher Geovany Soto, who took a foul ball off his hand Sunday, was the designated hitter Monday. … Johnny Giavotella was hit by a Yunel Escobar single as he advanced to second base, giving the Cubs an out.

Catcher Carlos Perez and Simmons executed a double steal on a pitch on which Soto struck out in the fourth inning. … Perez played all nine innings, the first time an Angels catcher has gone the distance this spring.

Choi was caught stealing in the seventh inning. Earlier, he misplayed a fly ball to left field into a triple.
