AT THE PLATE: With the possible exception of Josh Rutledge at second base, the lineup Mike Scioscia started Sunday is likely to be the one he takes into the season. But it didn’t do much against the Giants. Albert Pujols hit a first-inning home run against World Series hero Madison Bumgarner, then the Angels offense went to sleep before a C.J. Cron double and an Efren Navarro single drove in the deciding runs in the eighth inning. Mike Trout singled in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He was one for three and his spring average dropped to .500.

ON THE MOUND: C.J. Wilson pitched into the fifth inning in only his second Cactus League start, giving up three hits, including two home runs, and walking four. He threw 64 pitches. Despite being limited this spring because of a knee injury and illness, Wilson is expected by the Angels to be 100% by opening day. Drew Rucinski, a candidate to be on the team as a long reliever, followed Wilson and gave up two hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out six, including the final hitter, who went down with the tying run at third base.

EXTRA BASES: The Angels have won three games in a row and are unbeaten in their last six. … Garrett Richards will continue his comeback from knee surgery Monday when he starts in a triple-A game. The right-hander is expected to go four innings but is not likely to break camp with the Angels, staying in Tempe, Ariz., before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. The Angels hope to have him back in the rotation by mid April. ... More evidence that Andrew Heaney is leading Nick Tropeano in their battle for a spot in the Angels rotation: Heaney will start Tuesday’s Cactus League game against the Texas Rangers and Tropeano is again scheduled to pitch in a minor league game.

UP NEXT: Seattle on Monday at 1 p.m. at Tempe Diablo Stadium. On the air: Prime Ticket; Radio: 830.
