Angels hire Tim Bogar as special assistant to general manager

The Angels have hired former Texas Rangers interim manager Tim Bogar as a special assistant to the general manager, General Manager Jerry Dipoto confirmed Tuesday.

Bogar spent five years (2008-12) as a major league coach in Tampa Bay and Boston before taking a job with the Angels as manager of their double-A team at Arkansas in 2013. Bogar guided the Travelers to a 73-66 record and the Texas League finals that season.

Bogar left the Angels to become the bench coach at Texas last season and was named interim manager Sept. 14 after Ron Washington abruptly resigned because of personal reasons.

Though the injury-ravaged Rangers finished with an American League-worst 67-95 record, they went 14-8 under Bogar in the final three weeks of the season. Bogar was a finalist for the permanent job but lost out to Jeff Banister.
