It's said he won nearly 300 games in the Negro leagues, with a no-windup fastball that clocked 95 mph. This much is fact: In the four games in which he faced the great Satchel Paige, Day won three. Raised in Baltimore, he pitched for 12 pro seasons, striking out 18 in one game and leading the Baltimore Elite Giants to a flag in 1949. He died here in 1995, six days after learning of his induction into the Hall of Fame.
