Pernell McPhee, defensive end

GS: 6 | GP: 12 | Snaps: 448 Season in review: After bursting into the NFL with six sacks in his rookie year, 2012 was a disappointing season for McPhee, who dealt with injuries all season and recorded just 2.5 sacks, including playoffs. He split time with Arthur Jones at defensive end, but was not as productive as an interior rusher in sub packages. Signature moment: As the Ravens trailed, 28-21, in the second half of the AFC divisional round game against the Denver Broncos, McPhee sacked Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and forced a fumble that was recovered by Paul Kruger in Broncos territory. The Ravens tied the game on the ensuing possession. Stat that stands out: 29 -- total pressures for McPhee in 2012, according to Pro Football Focus, after he had 34 in fewer snaps in 2011. Pro Football Focus grade: +7.7 overall | +4.4 as a run defender | +2.6 as a pass rusher. Outlook for 2013 and beyond: McPhee is still young and talented, but the defensive line struggled at times last season so the Ravens added free agents Chris Canty and Marcus Spears this offseason to add experience and bolster the competition for snaps in the defensive line rotation. Even if he doesn¿t start, McPhee, if he is healthy and in shape, should still be counted on to provide punch in pass-rushing situations.
