It’s not exactly a surprise, but the Orioles’ top prospects, right-hander Dylan Bundy and shortstop Manny Machado, have been named to the prestigious 14th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
The all-level, minor league showcase will be held July 8 in Kansas City, two days before MLB’s All-Star game.
Bundy, the fourth pick overall in the 2011 draft out of an Oklahoma high school, and Machado, the third pick overall in 2010 out of a Miami high school, will be part of the U.S. team that will face the “world” team.
Bundy is currently pitching for the High-A Frederick Keys while Machado is with the Double-A Bowie Baysox.
They are the only two that will represent the Orioles this year in the Futures Game.
There are currently 11 Orioles on the 25-man roster or disabled list that played in the Futures Game while minor leaguers: Jake Arrieta (2008), Wilson Betemit (2001), J.J. Hardy (2003), Jim Johnson (2005), Nick Johnson (1999, 2001), Matt Lindstrom (2006), Brian Matusz (2009), Troy Patton (2005), Steve Pearce (2007), Nolan Reimold (2006), Taylor Teagarden (2008).Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
