Three defensive starters return to practice
Ngata, who did not participate in Wednesday’s session and was absent during the portion of Thursday’s practice open to the media, is trying to overcome a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee and an injured right shoulder suffered in Sunday’s 31-29 win against the Dallas Cowboys.
Kemoeatu is dealing with a right knee injury, and Smith injured his groin. Both players were held out of Wednesday’s session.
Offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie took part on a limited basis for the second straight day.
The Houston Texans, Sunday’s opponent, practiced for the second consecutive day without cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who is battling a sore groin. Nose tackle Shaun Cody (back) was limited for the second straight day,
A pair of starters in right guard Antoine Caldwell (concussion) and inside linebacker Bradie James (calf) were upgraded from limited to full participation. Four starters – tight Owen Daniels, running back Arian Foster, wide receiver Andre Johnson, and defensive end Antonio Smith – who were limited in Wednesday’s session for non injury-related reasons were removed from Houston’s injury report.
