Last season's national Goalie of the Year, Mikey Meagher, kept the Gators in a difficult season opener by shutting out No. 5 North Carolina for the final 52 minutes of a 5-3 victory. Meagher made nine saves, including three in the second half, as the Gators rallied from a 3-1 deficit, the first time they have ever won a game they trailed at halftime.
