The Wean family of the Poconos, Pa., started Preakness day the same way every year -- waking up at 5:30 a.m. to make the drive to Pimlico.
For Krisann, Ed and their three daughters, Alyssa, 18; Nicole, 14; and Alexandra, 12, this morning was a little more hectic than those in the past three years.
"We ordered our tickets online, but one didn't come," Ed Wean said, standing in line with his family outside the will-call window.
But as they discussedI'll Have Another-- their favorite to win today -- and the concerts they're looking forward to in the infield as part of today's festivities, the Weans seemed more or less relaxed.
Another topic of conversation that indicated the lighthearted mood of the day: each other's outfits.
"I went the dress-down way," Alyssa Wean said, showing off her Hard Rock Cafe baseball cap. It contrasted with Krisann and Nicole, who both opted for more traditional floppy hats and sundresses.
"We just like the whole experience, really," Alexandra Wean said. "It's fun."Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
