Angels 12, San Diego 3
AT THE PLATE: Howie Kendrick lined a solo home run to left in the first inning and singled in the sixth. He is batting .556 (10 for 18) with three home runs in six games. Chris Iannetta hit a two-run homer to left in the second, and prospects Travis Witherspoon (eighth) and Taylor Lindsey (ninth) each hit three-run shots.
ON THE MOUND: C.J. Wilson gave up one run and six hits in three innings, striking out two and walking one. He gave up four hits, including Jesus Guzman’s solo home run, in the second but escaped serious damage by getting Everth Cabrera to ground out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
EXTRA BASES: Left fielder Mike Trout lost Yonder Alonso’s routine fly in the sun in the second, the ball dropping for a double, but he followed that by making a nice running catch of Cameron Maybin’s sinking line drive toward the line. … Former Angels pitcher Jarrod Washburn, a guest instructor this week, is the new head coach at Webster (Wis.) High, his alma mater.
UP NEXT: Angels vs. Arizona at Tempe Diablo Stadium, noon PST Friday. On the air: TV: FS West; Radio: 830.
