RESULTS
* Tampa Bay 8, at Toronto 3 (13): Dioner Navarro hit a grand slam in the 13th inning after Carl Crawford drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly and the Rays beat the Blue Jays for the sixth time in seven games. J.P. Howell (1-0) worked three scoreless innings for the win.
* at Chicago 6, Minnesota 2: Jermaine Dye homered for the third straight game and Juan Uribe hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth inning and the White Sox won for the second time in nine games. Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire returned after missing five games following the death of his brother, but was ejected in the sixth inning for arguing a call.
* at New York 6, Cleveland 3: Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit all homered and the Yankees avoided being swept in the three-game series with the Indians. Mike Mussina (5-3) won his fourth straight start and earned his 255th career victory.
* Baltimore 4, at Kansas City 1: The Orioles ended a losing streak at five games as Daniel Cabrera threw a three-hitter. Nick Markakis hit a three-run home run for Baltimore.
* Boston 5, at Detroit 1: Josh Beckett got eight strikeouts, including the 1,000th of his career, and Kevin Youkilis hit another home run at spacious Comerica Park to lead the Red Sox past the Tigers. Boston won three of four in the series.
* Texas 5, at Seattle 0: Franklyn German (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief of the injured Kason Gabbard (leg) to get the win for the Rangers.
