Boston Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has hairline fractures in four ribs, and it’s not known when he’ll be able to return.

Ellsbury has been out since April 11, when he collided with third baseman Adrian Beltre in Kansas City. He would have been eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday.

Dr. Thomas Gill, the team physician, said “it will be safe to play as soon as the symptoms resolve.”

Ellsbury’s replacement in center field, Mike Cameron, also is on the disabled list.

Etc.

Minnesota Twins reliever Pat Neshek has been cleared to pitch. The side-arming right-hander was bothered by soreness in the middle finger of his throwing hand, but he threw a bullpen session before Thursday’s game against Cleveland and felt good. . . . Houston Astros reliever Alberto Arias is out for the season after right shoulder surgery. . . . The Philadelphia Phillies put left-hander J.A. Happ on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained forearm. . . . More than 21/2 weeks after opening day, there has not been a single postponement in the major leagues. Not since 1985 has baseball gone this far into a season without rescheduling a game because of rain, snow or anything else.
