Men's college lacrosse: Calvert Hall junior goalie Daniel Flock committed to Vermont. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Flock plays club for Greene Turtle 2014 AA under coach John Busse. Flock also considered Salisbury, Washington College, Sacred Heart, Virginia Military Institute and Hofstra. ... Fallston senior midfielder Marc Badger committed to Richmond, which will begin play as a Division I program in 2014. A two-year starter at midfield and a captain his junior year, Badger helped lead his team to the Class 2A-1A state championship this past spring, earning first-team All-County and All-Conference honors each year. ... Junior faceoff specialist-midfielder Jake Dunlop of Wootton High in Rockville committed to Bucknell. ... Senior attackman Mitchell Goldberg of Bullis School in Potomac committed to Richmond. Division II Belmont Abbey in Belmont, N.C., has added former Baltimore Thunder player Tom Ryan — known in his playing days as "The Dude" for his long, dreadlocked hair — to its coaching staff. Ryan is currently the head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Copperheads of the Professional Indoor Lacrosse League and has worked as an assistant coach with the Loyola College and Towson University women's teams.

College administration: Tricia Turley Brandenburg has been named deputy athletics director for internal operations at Towson University. She will oversee the department's academics, compliance and student success divisions.
Women's college gymnastics: Bailey Gallagher of West Lawn, Pa., and Bridget Steffen of Chesapeake, Va., have signed national letters of intent to attend Towson.
Varsity boys basketball: No. 8 John Carroll used a 22-11 run in the third quarter to beat Yates (Texas), 63-49, in the fifth-place game of the Iolani Classic in Honolulu. Kimbal Mckenzie scored a game-high 16 points for the Patriots (11-4), who trailed 25-24 at halftime. ... Seth Goldberg captured his 100th victory as St. Paul's coach as the Crusaders beat Cupeyville (San Juan), 49-25, at the Puerto Rico Tournament. St. Paul's beat San Ignacio, 44-38, on Friday. ... Boys' Latin beat Avalon School, 81-49, to advance to today's championship against St. Stephen and St. Agnes at 2 p.m. in the Laker Invitational. The Lakers beat Severn, 65-36, in Friday's opening round.
Varsity girls basketball: Melanie Mocniak scored 13 points, but St. Mary's fell to Ridge View (S.C.), 39-35, in the second round of the Seahawk Holiday Classic in Hilton Head, S.C.
