Cain. Verlander get All-Star starts

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- American League manager Ron Washington selected Justin Verlander as his starting pitcher and veteran Derek Jeter as his leadoff batter for Tuesday’s All-Star game.

NL manager Tony La Russa chose the Giants' Matt Cain over the Mets' R.A. Dickey as his starting pitcher.

“It’s huge and cool for me,” Cain said. “This is my third game, but to be able to start a game is a huge honor for me.”

It also is the first start for Verlander.
