Two-time Olympic speedskating champion
Davis, 30, has withdrawn from the first two days of racing at the opening
"Shani wants to skate 1500 tomorrow (Sunday) but it doesn't seem likely," Cherie Davis said in an email Saturday. "Maybe (he can skate) in Russia next week."
In the email, she said her son felt "something snap" in his groin area during a Nov. 6 practice at the Pettit Center in Milwaukee.
It first was diagnosed as a Grade1 strain, Cherie Davis continued. Further soreness led Davis to an MRI done in the Netherlands that revealed the three-centimeter (1.2-inch) tear.
He was advised not to skate and told it should be okay in 2-to-3 weeks, Cherie Davis wrote.
