Deacon Jones

Number: 50 Player: Deacon Jones, 1B/PH, 1962-63, '66 Comment: Jokers by the dozens called in support of Rick White and Jose Paniagua, but the panel, snubbing Barry Jones and Juan Agosto, settled on another pinch-hitter, Grover "Deacon" Jones, who in the minors had years of .343, .353 and .409 but because of a devastating arm injury couldn't throw well enough to play regularly in the majors. He got a chance in '62 at age 28 and hit .321 with 8 RBIs in 28 at-bats.
