Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said after Thursday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets that he plans on signing guard Dahntay Jones to a second 10-day contract Friday.

Jones has played in four games since he joined the Clippers Jan. 14, averaging 1.0 points in 5 minutes, 51 seconds per game.

“I haven’t even made the decision, but we’re going to keep him,” Rivers said.

After Jones’ second 10-day contract expires, the Clippers have to sign him for the remainder of the season or release him. The Clippers are more inclined to waive Jones, a 10-year veteran, at that point.

Rivers said Jones has been a big help as a reserve, bringing energy and enthusiasm.

“He’s been great for the young guys, for Austin [Rivers] and C.J. [Wilcox] already,” Rivers said. “He’s a veteran. He’s happy to be here and he has a toughness about him as well that I think will be good for us.”
