Moore looks forward to workouts

When Kyle Moore returns to USC on Friday for the final week of preparations for the Rose Bowl, the senior defensive end will be counting down the practice days until the Trojans play Penn State.

But Moore also is among the seniors looking forward to practices after the Jan. 1 game.

Moore, linebackers Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing, defensive end Clay Mathews and defensive tackle Fili Moala have been invited to the Jan. 24 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Coach Pete Carroll said.

The game is preceded by several days of workouts before NFL coaches, scouts and player personnel executives.

“I’m going to try and make a name for myself there,” Moore said. “It’s the so-called best seniors in the country, so we’ll go out there and put a show on for them.”

A good showing in practices could particularly benefit a player such as Moore, who has played in the shadow of the Trojans’ marquee linebackers and secondary. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound Moore had a team-best five sacks, and 9 1/2 of his 28 tackles were for losses.

Moore says he has talked to several former Trojans about what to expect in Mobile.

“You want to play hard and win every drill, so when the draft comes around there’s a little buzz,” he said.

Linebacker Kaluka Maiava, safety Kevin Ellison, receiver Patrick Turner and cornerbacks Cary Harris and Josh Pinkard have been invited to the East-West Shrine game in Houston on Jan. 17.
