COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Louisiana State quarterback Perrilloux will keep his job

He has been involved in a string of off-field issues that include alleged counterfeit rings and a fake ID, but he’ll hang on to starter’s role because the team has little option.

This is the third in a series of short reports examining some of college football’s spring story lines. Today: Louisiana State … After the Glory.

Ryan Perrilloux (pronounced perilous in Baton Rouge) assumes full-time command at quarterback for the defending champions provided he does not become involved in any off-field issues that involve alleged counterfeit rings, entering a casino using false identification or getting kicked off the team for not keeping up with his schoolwork.

What, all that happened?

To rephrase, Perrilloux will still be starting quarterback next fall because winning football games is very important at Louisiana State and the only other options are a redshirt freshman and a walk-on transfer from Harvard.

Spring forward: Les Miles did not become, by contract, the third-highest-paid college football coach for winning the national title, now making $3.751 million per year – which somehow worked out to be $1,000 more than Alabama Coach Nick Saban – by not being able to figure things out.
