UCLA’s Osaar Rasshan will have surgery

UCLA quarterback Osaar Rasshan will undergo surgery on his left knee but is expected to be ready for training camp in August.

Rasshan, who will be a junior, was bothered by what was called tendinitis throughout spring practice. He will be the third Bruins quarterback to undergo surgery in less than a month.

Patrick Cowan suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament shortly after Coach Rick Neuheisel designated him as the starter. He will miss all of next season. Ben Olson sustained a fractured bone in his right foot but is expected to be ready by training camp.

Junior College transfer Kevin Craft and redshirt freshman Chris Forcier are the two other quarterbacks currently on the roster. Nick Crissman of Huntington Beach Edison High and Kevin Prince of Encino Crespi will be freshmen in the fall.

Rasshan started three games at quarterback for the Bruins in 2007, after injuries to Cowan and Olson. He completed 17 of 45 passes for 259 yards and threw two intercepted passes.

Also, tailback Chane Moline will undergo surgery to have a screw put in his right wrist. He broke the wrist a year ago but was experiencing pain throughout spring practice. He is also expected to be ready by training camp.
