No. 21 UCLA falls to Gonzaga in Honolulu
Michelle Elliott scored 20 points to lead Gonzaga to a 62-57 victory over No. 21 UCLA in the first round of the Rainbow Wahine Classic Friday at Honolulu.
Chinyere Ibekwe led the Bruins (2-3) with 21 points, and Lindsey Pluimer had 14.
The Bruins pulled to within 51-50 with 4:19 left, but the Bulldogs (5-1) responded with four free throws from Heather Bowman and Jami Bjorklund.
Gonzaga held UCLA’s leading scorer, Noelle Quinn, to one free throw and 0-for-8 shooting.
USC 69, Notre Dame 58 -- The Trojans (2-2) ended a seven-game losing streak against the Fighting Irish (3-2), beating them for the first time since January 1985.
Shay Murphy scored 15 points to lead USC. She extended her streak of scoring in double digits to 28 games.
No. 4 Tennessee 77, No. 11 Stanford 60 -- Candace Parker got the fourth dunk of her career and scored 25 points to lead the host Lady Vols (4-0). The Cardinal (2-2) twice cut the deficit to nine points late in the second half, and Tennessee answered with three-point baskets.
