USC beats Arizona State for its 20th win

Even if they don’t win the conference tournament title, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke says the resume USC has put together, which now includes 20 wins and a trip to the Pac-12 semifinals, is worthy of an NCAA bid.

Charli Turner Thorne says Arizona State deserves the same, even with the Sun Devils getting knocked off by the Trojans, 59-57, in the Pac-12 quarterfinals on Friday in Seattle.

“Before this game I thought our resume was pretty strong,” Cooper-Dyke said. “Playing in the Pac-12 is equally as tough as playing in the ACC or SEC, Big 12 included. We have some really strong teams in the Pac-12. So I really feel like this win has added to that resume and built a case for us.”

Cassie Harberts scored 14 points, Ariya Crook added 13 and USC held off Arizona State’s late rally. Katie Hempen led Arizona State with 12 points, while Deja Mann, Kelsey Moos and Joy Burke each finished with 10.

Washington State 91, California 83: Lia Galdeira scored 28 points, Tia Presley added 19, including a huge three-pointer with 1:21 remaining as the shot clock expired, and the Cougars upset the No. 20 Bears. Washington State used a 15-4 run midway through the second half to take control, then held off California’s charge in the closing minutes.

Stanford 69, Colorado 54: Chiney Ogwumike scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half, and the No. 4 Cardinal overcame its worst scoring first half of the season. Ogwumike gave Stanford the lead for good with a rare three-pointer early in the second half. Stanford, seeded No. 1 in the tournament, was held to a season-low 21 points in the first half.

Oregon State 50, Utah 35: Sydney Wiese had 20 points to lead the Beavers, who will face Washington State in the conference semifinals.
