Devin Aromashodu was not pleased about playing only one snap against the Cowboys. So you can imagine how the Bears receiver felt about not suiting up Monday night.
Aromashodu, who drew praise from the Packers defensive backs after his eight-catch, 76-yard performance in the last meeting, stood in street clothes as one of the Bears' inactive players. He fell out of favor after dropping three passes and missing a handful of downfield blocks in the opener against the Lions. Aromashodu was targeted a team-high 10 times in that game and caught five passes for 71 yards.
Offensive coordinator Mike Martz said last week Aromashodu had trouble picking up the slot receiver spot, but Aromashodu seemed confused by that reasoning. Even if playing him outside was the only option, giving Aromashodu a few snaps seemed to be reasonable against the Packers. The coaches, evidently, thought otherwise.
Grabbing some bench: After a shaky start to the game, starting left cornerback Zack Bowman was replaced by Tim Jennings.
Record-setter: When long snapper Patrick Mannelly entered for Robbie Gould's 49-yard field-goal attempt in the first quarter, he set the Bears record of 192 games played, surpassing Steve McMichael's mark.
New face: Rookie J'Marcus Webb made his debut when he entered at right tackle during the Bears' third series. He replaced veteran Kevin Shaffer in what appeared to be a planned rotation.
Shaffer started on the right side with Frank Omiyale moving to left tackle in place of Chris Williams, who was inactive with a hamstring strain.
Extra points: Israel Idonije started at left defensive end ahead of Mark Anderson. … Running backs Chester Taylor and Matt Forte were both on the field for the first play, with Taylor in the backfield and Forte split wide. Taylor ran for no gain. … The Bears promoted offensive lineman Edwin Williams from the practice squad and waived guard Johan Asiata, who began training camp running with the first-team offense. … Linebacker Nick Roach was active coming off a hamstring injury and was on the kick return team to start the game. … Also inactive were defensive tackle Tommie Harris, safety Major Wright (hamstring), cornerback Joshua Moore, running back Kahlil Bell and defensive end Corey Wootton. Caleb Hanie was the third quarterback.
