Hanley Ramirez is back in Dodgers lineup against the Rockies

Sometimes news is good simply by not being bad.

So here’s some good news, Dodgers faithful: One night after Hanley Ramirez left the game grimacing in pain after taking a sharp one-hopper off the end of his right ring finger, the shortstop said he was good to go.

Ramirez is back in the lineup Wednesday in the homestand finale against the Rockies. And if Manager Don Mattingly said it was only 50-50 he would remain in the lineup after going through infield drills and batting practice, Ramirez looked fine afterward.

“I think just the fact that he comes in good enough that he thinks he can play is good news for us,” Mattingly said.

X-rays taken on the finger during Tuesday’s game were negative, but Ramirez said Mattingly’s original plan was to sit him Wednesday. The Dodgers are off Thursday.

“It’s sore, (but) I got here earlier and got some treatment,” Ramirez said. “Donnie was trying to give me the day off and I said, ‘No, I’m going to go down there. Put me in the lineup.’ I’ll try to do BP and the other stuff before the game and I’ll be ready.”

Ramirez, 30, is in the last year of his contract, and has been dogged by injury in recent years. The Dodgers have said they want to re-sign him but have to be leery about committing the kind of money it would take to bring him back, given his age and medical history.

At least his current injury does not appear serious.

“It’s good news that he feels right at this moment, so I would think worst-case scenario we’d be looking at is starting Friday in San Diego,” Mattingly said.

Ramirez said the finger feels sore both when he bats and throws.

“But I don’t want to put negative thoughts in my mind,” he said. “Right now I’m playing and I’ll try to do my routine like a regular day.”

In other injury news, Mattingly said Juan Uribe (hamstring) would start a three-day rehab series Thursday (corrected), likely with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, and then hopefully join the Dodgers when they open a three-game series in Kansas City on Monday.

He also said infielder Justin Turner (calf), who has been able to pinch-hit the past three games, should be ready to return to the field Friday in San Diego.
