Zack Greinke will start Saturday or Sunday at Citi Field against the New York Mets, Manager Don Mattingly said.

Greinke, who has a scoreless streak of 43 2/3 innings, returned to Los Angeles on Thursday for the birth of his first child. He was expected to fly back Friday evening to New York.

Greinke’s wife, Emily, tweeted the news: “Bode Nicholas Greinke born on 7/23/15, 19 in. long, 6 lbs 5 oz!”

Greinke was originally scheduled to start Friday in a game that will now be started by left-hander Ian Thomas.

Greinke could pitch Saturday and step into the place in the rotation that was vacated when Brandon Beachy was optioned to triple-A Oklahoma City. If Greinke doesn’t start that day, the Dodgers would likely call up a pitcher from triple-A, perhaps former first-round pick Zach Lee.

Brett Anderson, who experienced discomfort in his left Achilles’ tendon during his last start, reported no problems in his bullpen session and is expected to be available to start Sunday. But if Greinke starts Sunday, Anderson would be pushed back to the Dodgers’ next game, which is Tuesday in Los Angeles against the Oakland Athletics.
