Five funny Dodgers giveaways on Twitter for #VotePuig

Share

At 12:51 a.m. Thursday, the Dodgers Twitter account sent out a message of encouragement (and incentive) to its followers: “We are giving away everything except the keys to Dodger Stadium. #Vote Puig”

Funny thing is, they weren’t lying. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Major League Baseball counted votes via Twitter with assigned hashtags for the final spot on the All-Star rosters.

Yasiel Puig sat in second place behind Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman, so the Dodgers folks raided their closets to find out what they could give away for votes.

The results were hilarious, tempting and, at times, beyond bizarre:

No. 5 Britney Spears autographed Dodgers jersey

Probably the most sought-after item of the day. Bob Barker couldn’t even put a price tag on it. But you know, for those who happen to be a huge fan of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

No. 4 : Signed memorabilia

Instead of running to the Top of the Park store, fans just had to send in a vote. Puig’s jersey ranks 10th in baseball for the most popular jersey. Meanwhile, the Dodgers also gave out signed baseballs from Puig and Magic Johnson.

No. 3 A giant Puig autographed face on a stick

There’s really no explanation here. Just a picture.

No. 2 Meet-and-greets with Vin Scully and Tommy Lasorda

Any chance to hear a story or two from a living legend such as Vin Scully probably got a few more fans to vote. If that didn’t work, sharing a bowl of pasta fagioli with the last Dodgers manager to win a World Series has to be up there.

No. 1 In-person phone call from Puig

Puig took over the Dodgers offices in the late morning, tweeting, taking pictures and, coolest of all, giving select Dodgers fans thank-you phone calls for voting for him. Talk about a phone call you don’t want to drop.
