Dodgers send pitcher Carlos Frias back to triple-A Oklahoma City

The Dodgers optioned Carlos Frias back to triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday.

This is where I would like to go all Paul Harvey on you and provide the rest of the story -- like who they’re adding to the roster -- but the Dodgers apparently like to do things in pieces these days.

So Frias is down, and now you must stay tuned. Unless the Dodgers think they’re just so good they can play with only 24, at some point before Friday’s game they will announce who they’re adding to the roster.

Hopefully, Frias did not bother to unpack. He was called up as a potential emergency long reliever Wednesday in case Brett Anderson was chased early. Anderson lasted five-plus innings and Frias never did pitch, though he did get up in the bullpen.

The Dodgers optioned infielder Darwin Barney down to add Frias, so they can’t call him up for 10 days unless a player is injured. If they want another infielder, Enrique Hernandez would appear a likely candidate.

They don’t need to fill injured Hyun-Jin Ryu’s spot in the rotation again until April 25, but they could call up an additional reliever until then. Left-hander Adam Liberatore had a spotless spring, and with the Dodgers facing left-handed heavy lineups from the Rockies and Giants next, he could be a logical addition.

If right-hander Sergio Santos is not on the major-league roster by May 1, he can opt out of his contract, so that could also prove a factor.
