Dodgers’ Zack Greinke puts off contract questions til after season

When Zack Greinke was asked last month about the opt-out clause in his contract that can be exercised at the end of the season, he said to ask him about it again when the Dodgers reported to spring training.

That day came Thursday.

Here’s what Greinke had to say on the subject:

“I’ve thought about it some. Maybe it’s just a question that you guys ask me because I answer some questions I shouldn’t. But it seems to be a pretty obvious thing that it’s something that you don’t talk about. The teams have options all the time. They don’t comment before the season ends if they’re going to accept or decline a player’s contract. You’re always weighing things as they go and no one’s going to accept before they need to or decline a contract before they need to because so many things can happen. So I won’t have any answers until the season’s over.”

Greinke said the Dodgers haven’t approached him about extending his current contract, which calls for him to earn $71 million from 2016 to 2018.
