ON THE MOUND: Brett Anderson earned his first win with the Dodgers, limiting the Mariners to two runs (one earned) and six hits over five innings. The only earned run charged to Anderson came on a fourth-inning solo home run by Nelson Cruz. The home run reduced the Dodgers’ advantage to 5-1. Paco Rodriguez inherited three baserunners from Anderson with no outs in the sixth inning, but allowed only one of them to score. Rodriguez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Chris Hatcher faced two batters in the seventh inning and struck out both of them. Pedro Baez pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Left-hander J.P. Howell recorded the final two outs.

AT THE PLATE: Adrian Gonzalez was two for five with a double and a run batted in. His 19 hits are the most by any player in franchise history through the first nine games of a season. Scott Van Slyke doubled in two runs in the first inning. Andre Ethier and Joc Pederson each drove in a run. Mariners starting pitcher Taijuan Walker lasted four innings. Walker was charged with five runs, six hits and four walks.

MEDICAL REPORT: Yasiel Puig missed his second consecutive game because of a strained left hamstring. Manager Don Mattingly said he expects Puig to return to the lineup when the Dodgers resume play on Friday. However, before the game against the Mariners on Tuesday, Mattingly said Puig might be available to pinch-hit. After the game, he admitted that was untrue. … Carl Crawford was out of the lineup because of a stiff ankle, but pinch-hit in the seventh.

ROSTER MOVES: Left-hander David Huff, who started for the Dodgers on Tuesday, was designated for assignment and removed from the 40-man roster. Huff can remain with the Dodgers if he clears waivers and agrees to a minor league assignment. Huff was replaced on the active roster by right-hander Carlos Frias, promoted from triple-A Oklahoma City. The Dodgers used the newly created spot on the their 40-man roster on Ryan Dennick, claimed off waivers from Cincinnati. Dennick, 28, pitched in the major leagues for the first time last season, appearing in eight games for the Reds. He was optioned by the Dodgers to double-A Tulsa.
