Adrian Gonzalez homers in his first at-bat with Dodgers

Adrian Gonzalez had only been in Los Angeles for a couple of hours and was wearing his Dodgers uniform for the first time when he found himself rounding the bases at Dodger Stadium.

One of the four players acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox, Gonzalez sent the second pitch he saw as a member of his new team into the lower seats in the right-field corner for a three-run home run, giving the Dodgers a 4-1 lead over the Miami Marlins in the first inning.

Gonzalez’s 16th home run of the season came on an 0-1 pitch from Miami right-hander Josh Johnson, scoring Luis Cruz and Matt Kemp.

The Dodgers’ new first baseman -- replacing James Loney, who was sent to Boston as part of the nine-player trade -- struck out in his next two at-bats.

Gonzalez, who is batting .300 with 86 RBIs this season, arrived in L.A. on a flight from Boston on Saturday with pitcher Josh Beckett and utility man Nick Punto, who were also included in the deal that was completed earlier in the day.

Injured outfielder Carl Crawford is also a new member of the Dodgers as a result of the trade.

According to the Dodgers’ Twitter feed, Gonzalez is the sixth L.A. Dodger to homer in his first at-bat with the team, joining a club that includes Juan Rivera in 2011 and Ronnie Belliard in 2009.

Jose Offerman (1990) and Garey Ingram (1994) hit home runs for the Dodgers in their debut at-bats, according to acmewebpages.com.
