Dodgers continue to add front office depth with Bob Engle

Say this for the Dodgers’ new ownership group, they are making an effort to add good people.

They officially added another Thursday, hiring Bob Engle as their vice president of international scouting.

Team CEO Stan Kasten has said having a greater impact in international scouting would become a priority, one backed up when the Dodgers gave $42 million to Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig.

Engle, 62, held the same title with the Mariners, where he had been since 2004. He’s also worked for the Orioles and Blue Jays, and is credited with signing Cy Young winners Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter, Pat Hentgen and Felix Hernandez.

“Bob Engle and his knowledge of the international landscape is a great addition to our scouting team,” General Manager Ned Colletti said in a statement. “Our new ownership’s directive is to strengthen the Dodgers’ scouting, both domestically and internationally. Developing future players through heightened scouting is paramount to the long-term success of the Dodgers organization.”

This is the second impressive front-office hire in as many weeks for the Dodgers. On Oct. 18, they added the highly respected Gerry Hunsicker, a former general manager, as a senior advisor for baseball operations.
