Dodgers call up Javy Guerra, Tim Federowicz and John Ely

The Dodgers have brought in their first wave of September call-ups, summoning reliever Javy Guerra, catcher Tim Federowicz and starting pitcher John Ely from triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.

Federowicz and Guerra were already on the 40-man roster. To make room on the 40-man roster for Ely, the Dodgers placed minor league outfielder Alfredo Silverio on the 60-day disabled list. Silverio was involved in an off-season car accident and hasn’t played this year

Guerra started the season as the Dodgers’ closer but lost his job to Kenley Jansen. Guerra was sent to Albuquerque two weeks ago to work on his command.

Federowicz, 25, batted .294 with 11 home runs and 76 runs batted in for Albuquerque.

Ely pitched in the major leagues in 2010 and 2011. In 23 major league games, including 19 starts, he is 4-11 with a 5.35 earned-run average. He was the Pacific Coast League’s pitcher of the year this season.
