Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw to pitch Wednesday for double-A Chattanooga

Clayton Kershaw will continue his minor league rehabilitation assignment Wednesday with double-A Chattanooga, the Dodgers announced.

The start would line up Kershaw to start for the Dodgers on May 5, when they open a three-game series in Washington.

Kershaw’s preference was for his next start to be in the major leagues rather than in double A.

Kershaw said he is completely recovered from the back muscle injury that has sidelined him. He has not pitched in the majors since the Dodgers’ season opener in Australia.

“I guess that’s kind of the hard part, is going to pitch another game when you feel healthy,” he said.

He pitched five innings Saturday for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.

Kershaw threw 56 pitches in that game. The Dodgers wanted him to build up his pitch count before returning to the majorss, where he would be expected to throw around 100 pitches per game.
