PHOENIX — Matt Kemp is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Friday, the results of which could determine the next step in his rehabilitation.

Kemp hasn’t run outdoors since he underwent surgery on his left ankle four months ago.

Even if Kemp’s ankle is determined to be healed, Mattingly expects the former All-Star to take his time coming back.

“I’m not quite sure what it’s going to allow us to do,” Mattingly said. “I’m assuming once we get the green light to go forward, it’s still going to be a progression to get him ready.”

For the sake of the player, Mattingly is hoping Kemp can take a step forward.

“I’m sure he’s getting tired of taking BP and not being able to do anything with the rest of the guys.”
