Dodgers name training room after Dr. Frank Jobe
The Dodgers made a nice, and much deserved, gesture Monday when they dedicated the team’s Dodger Stadium training facility in honor of Dr. Frank Jobe.
Jobe passed away last month at 88 after serving the team for 50 years. He pioneered the so-called Tommy John surgery, the elbow ligament-replacement procedure that has prolonged the careers of many players.
The Dodgers had a pregame ceremony with President Stan Kasten presenting Jobe’s widow, Beverly, and three of his sons, Cam, Chris and Meredith, with a replica of the “Dr. Frank Jobe Training Room” sign that will hang over the facility.
John was in attendance and gave a framed display with pictures of Jobe and a copy of the original X-ray taken of his elbow to Kasten and the Dodgers.
The sons then threw out the first pitch to three who have had the Tommy John procedure – Brian Wilson, Chad Billingsley and John.
