Through six innings Wednesday night, Yasiel Puig was hitless.

But then, the Dodgers nearly were too.

San Diego’s Jason Marquis had not allowed a hit until Skip Schumaker doubled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth at Dodger Stadium. He walked consecutive batters in the fifth to lose his bid for a perfect game.

Marquis, 34, had allowed seven runs in the 8 2/3 innings of his last two starts, but has been in command throughout Wednesday.

Puig is 0-for-3 with two groundouts and a strikeout.

Clayton Kershaw left for a pinch hitter after six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out nine. It was the first time he has not pitched at seven innings in his past eight starts.

Schumaker extended his hitting streak to 12 games with the double that landed just in front of the wall in center. Adrian Gonzalez singled off the glove of second baseman Jedd Gyorko to score Schumaker and leave the Dodgers trailing, 3-1, after six.
