On July 3, Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig pulled a Clark Kent and nearly ran through a wall at Coors Field. Turns out, the collision is still having its effects.

Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly pulled Puig in the top of the eighth inning of a 6-1 win over Colorado on Thursday night after he aggravated his left hip. Mattingly said Puig might have irritated it while running out an infield single in the fourth inning.

“It didn’t seem serious, but as the game went on it looked like ... it may have been tightening up a little bit,” Mattingly said. “It just didn’t seem to be worth taking any chances with him. We’ll see what he looks like tomorrow.”

Puig, who started in center field, went two for four with two singles, the 18th time in 36 games he’s had multiple hits.

“It’s been something that has been bothering me since hitting the wall in Colorado,” Puig said after the game. “I will get treatment on it tomorrow and see what happens.”

Although there may not be a direct correlation, Puig has seen his average drop from .430 to .397 and has no home runs and has driven in only one run since crashing into the Coors Field wall.

“The training staff took me out,” the Cuban rookie said. “They knew I had played a lot of innings and knew what happened in Colorado, so they took me out for precautionary reasons.”

Asked whether he was concerned with the 22-year-old’s status, Mattingly didn’t seem too worried.

“Not on a long-term basis” Mattingly said. “Maybe a day or something. But we’ll see.”
