What used to be the Yasiel Puig Home Run Watch has turned into the Puig Injury Watch.

For the second consecutive game, Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly pulled the 22-year-old outfielder from the game because of an aggravated left hip.

“This is day to day,” Mattingly said after the Dodgers’ 3-0 loss to Colorado. “We just have to do a better job of communicating. Guys get banged up, if he needs a day off ... there’s no shame in that.”

Puig, who was pulled in the fifth inning after grounding out twice, said his condition improved from Thursday, when he was taken out in the eighth inning.

“It feels a lot better, but there’s a lot of games left in the season,” Puig said. “I’ll rest and get some treatment on it tomorrow.”

Puig only has one extra-base hit and one run batted in since crashing into the right-field wall at Coors Field on July 3. However, he said the injury has not affected his swing and any ailments won’t stop him from continuing his all-out effort.

“I enjoy playing and really want to get on the field because we are in the thick of things,” Puig said. “I haven’t thought of that. That’s how I play.”

Mattingly said the team would wait until Saturday to check on Puig’s health, but no tests had been scheduled.

“He thought he would go, but it just wasn’t good enough,” Mattingly said. “If he’s healthy, he’ll play.”
