Dodgers claim they don’t know where Zack Greinke will start Wednesday

Zack Greinke is scheduled to start Wednesday.

Where he starts, however, is supposedly undetermined.

Manager Don Mattingly, who said over the weekend a determination on whether Greinke pitched for the Dodgers on Wednesday or made another rehab start, would be announced Monday.

Monday came and they still hadn’t made up their minds. For what it’s worth, rookie Matt Magill is still listed as Wednesday’s starter against the Washington Nationals.

Mattingly claimed the Dodgers are still weighing the risks to Greinke’s left collarbone should he pitch at the major league level.

Really? More likely they have decided he will start for the Dodgers and don’t feel like giving the Nationals advanced notice or there is some element of disagreement going on.

He’s not going to pitch for triple-A Albuquerque, the Isotopes are off on Wednesday (corrected). Class-A Rancho Cucamonga is at home Wednesday should the Dodgers elect to let him start there a second time.

Greinke broke the collarbone April 11 in San Diego when he tried to block charging Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin. He was initially expected to be out eight weeks, but roared ahead of schedule. He made his first rehab start for Rancho Cucamonga on Friday and said he was ready to go.

“I may not be 100% the next game, but I’ll be close to it,” Greinke said Saturday. “It’ll probably be five starts before I’m 100% and I don’t want to wait that long.”
