PHOENIX -- Yasiel Puig tossed a medicine ball against a concrete wall and hit in a batting cage Friday as he resumed limited workouts.

Puig’s right thigh, which was struck by a foul ball two days earlier, remains sore, according to Manager Don Mattingly.

Puig was given the day off Thursday.

Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke will pitch the Dodgers’ first two exhibition games, both of which are against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Kershaw will pitch the Cactus League opener, which will be played at the Diamondbacks’ spring-training home in Scottsdale. Greinke will start the second game, which will be played at the Dodgers’ complex.

Kemp update

Matt Kemp still isn’t expected to play in the Dodgers’ season-opening series in Australia.

“We’re not hopeful,” Mattingly said.

Kemp hasn’t run outdoors since he underwent ankle surgery over the winter.

Kemp will undergo an MRI exam next week, according to Mattingly. The results of the exam could lead to Kemp being cleared to run.
