Dodgers announce stadium renovations for 2014 season

There is more tweaking than major renovation scheduled to take place at Dodger Stadium this off-season, not that the 52-year-old ballpark won’t undergo some noticeable changes.

The most significant upgrade, however, will go unseen by the fans. After spending more than $100 million on stadium improvements last season that included a new Dodgers clubhouse, this season the visitors’ clubhouse gets a makeover.

The Dodger Stadium visiting clubhouse was the smallest in the majors, but now visiting teams will have a new clubhouse behind the dugout that will be adjacent to the batting tunnel and training areas built last season.

The most conspicuous physical change to the stadium will be the bullpen overlooks previously reported by The Times. They are scheduled to have seating and lounging areas with a view of pitchers as they warm up.

There also will be expanded entrances at the field levels behind the bullpen areas to enable fans with pavilion, dugout, field, loge and club tickets to enter the ballpark at the north side of the stadium. The areas also will have new team stores and concessions, so say goodbye to those unsightly white tents.

And – get excited now – there will be a Tom Lasorda Italian offering, which you have to hope fares better than his last restaurant. There will also be a barbecue grill area.

The Dodgers said they will have three times as many trees in the outfield area and continue to upgrade the electrical infrastructure, and expect the work to be completed by opening day.
