Dashboard camera shows officer arresting Yasiel Puig in speeding case

In a recently released police video, Yasiel Puig is shown desperately pleading for his freedom during his arrest last month on a charge of reckless driving.

“Please, sir,” Puig can be heard saying in Spanish multiple times to the Florida Highway Patrol officer who arrested him.

In case you missed it: Puig was arrested on Dec. 28, accused of driving 110 mph on a road with a 70 mph speed limit. He was charged with reckless driving, and the arrest was his second of the year.

In the video captured by the officer’s dashboard camera, the trooper, who speaks Spanish, appears to be particularly upset when learning Puig’s mother is in the vehicle.

“This is your mother?” the officer asks Puig in Spanish.

When Puig tells him that she is, the officer says, in English, “Oh, you’re going to jail.”

The officer goes on to lecture Puig for endangering his mother’s life, then orders Puig to step out of his car. As Puig is handcuffed, he repeatedly asks the officer not to arrest him.

At one point, one of Puig’s companions tells the officer that Puig plays for the Dodgers. The officer ignores him.
