One day after breaking into the Dodgers lineup for the first time since May 29, Matt Kemp is back out of it.

No need to worry though, Dodgers fans. His hamstring is fine, his shoulder is fine. It’s just a scheduled day off, according to Manager Don Mattingly. Kemp will be available off the bench and took batting practice with the team.

“I bet you he’s a little sore just body wise today,” Mattingly said.

Kemp said he’s fine too after making the game-saving catch in the Dodgers’ 6-5 win over the Giants last night, though he did have to beg Mattingly to let him play in that game. After sliding onto the warning track after snagging the Marco Scutaro drive to deep center, Kemp smacked the wall violently in celebration.

Mattingly said he’s acclimating Kemp to the major league level the same way he did shortstop Hanley Ramirez and catcher A.J. Ellis by making sure an early rest day is built into their first week.

Kemp has played each of the last four days, the first three with triple-A Albuquerque, for the first time in a full month.

“Nothing’s wrong,” Mattingly said. “It was kind of the same plan we talked about with Hanley. With Hanley we let him play that extra day, that fifth day, when he came back.”

Kemp went 1-for-4 last night and is hitting .251 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 52 games this season.

After wrapping up a three-game series with San Francisco tonight, the Giants host the Phillies for four games before an off-day.

From then on, Mattingly hopes Kemp will be able to play every day again.
